That is what some lunatics thought on January 6, and without stringent DC gun laws, hundreds of them would have been carrying AR-15s. That is also what some lunatics in Pennsylvania thought when they launched the Whiskey Rebellion -- thankfully to be put down by the well-regulated militias commanded by George Washington. There is no feasible world today in which private gun owners rising in revolt can rival the power of the U.S. military. They could neither hope to defeat or even resist it, nor could they aid it if they chose to support the United States.John Donohuehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04889842667860898417noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2508618900717274691.post-48576987364407813002023-04-29T11:13:35.073-04:002023-04-29T11:13:35.073-04:00Armand Sr.'s house in Cockeysville was indeed ...Armand Sr.'s house in Cockeysville was indeed corrugated metal on the exterior with a nice hardwood floor inside. Which was May 16 2022. I almost felt as if I was going to not make it 50/50 gamble with my life. Scary is an understatement. They should have it closed on one side at least. The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination. The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination. As President Lyndon B. Quoting from Thoreau's letter to his mother (July 7, 1843): "Pray, have you the Seventeen year locust [cicada] in Concord? The air here [Staten Island] is filled with their din. They come out of the ground at first in an imperfect state, and, crawling up the shrubs and plants, the perfect insect bursts out through the back. ... In a few weeks the eggs will be hatched, and the worms fall to the ground and enter it, and in 1860 make their appearance again. ... Their din is heard by those who sail along the shore, from the distant woods, Phar-r-r-aoh. Phar-r-r-aoh. They are departing now. Dogs, cats and chickens subsist mainly upon them in some places." I think it was Brood 2 that emerged that year. praymonthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09799593980838361293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2508618900717274691.post-73645511122137611302021-06-05T09:46:55.700-04:002021-06-05T09:46:55.700-04:00I'm glad to be allergic to shrimp! The problem is more timely than ever before. It is true, as the post suggests, that the defaming of Daniel Everett and the apparent consequences to his ability to conduct fieldwork have been largely forgotten. But no part of any of this has been resolved satisfactorily. There was attempt to raise the issue within the linguistics field in 2017 in a review of a recent book of Everett in Journal of Linguistics: https://jan.ucc.nau.edu/nf4/ReviewEverett.pdf. The review references two postings from a linguistics blog in 2014: https://jan.ucc.nau.edu/nf4/EverettChomskyPosting.pdf
And a blog of Chronicle of Higher Education in 2012: https://jan.ucc.nau.edu/nf4/CHE(2012)post.pdf. No evidence of the charge levelled against Everett has ever been brought forward. I asked for this evidence on these three occasions, and no one has replied.
The topic of Universal Grammar and Everett’s research calling UG into question is interesting. Maybe some time we can have this discussion too. My book review was a proposal for having it. But for now this is a different matter.
norberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05912802625767176117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2508618900717274691.post-69161075920678036552021-03-19T18:48:39.660-04:002021-03-19T18:48:39.660-04:00I was pleased to see this posting from professor P...I was pleased to see this posting from professor Peltz-Steele on the topic of defamation by use of the accusation of racism.
